WELCOME TO UNICISE!
Hello everybody. A very warm and delicious welcome from me, the founder of UNICISE, Jordan Burns. Today is the start of something new. Something that has yet to be fulfilled in Brighton... a fitness website for university students who live in this beautiful seaside town.
UNICISE wants to shake off the stereotype that fitness and healthy eating costs a lot of money because, well, it doesn't! I am a student who is about to graduate from the University of Sussex with an MA in Multimedia Journalism. I also did my BA here in Media Studies. In total, I have lived in Brighton for four years. In my first few years I lived the stereotypical life of a university student... eating unhealthily, drinking a lot and rarely working out. Now, whilst all of these things are good in moderation, my excessiveness led to me becoming extremely unfit and unhealthy. So I solved the first problem by joining a gym. I paid a one-off relatively cheap payment and thought all of my problems would be solved. Wrong.
I started working out and everything was great at first. I was motivated. I was making progress. It made me feel good. However, after awhile I got bored with my work out routine and my progress begun to stagnate. I slipped into old habits of rarely working out and eating unhealthily. I tried again. The same thing happened. When I finally got my work out routine solved I thought that would solve all of my problems. Yet again I was wrong!
As the old saying goes... "abs are made in the kitchen." And to be honest, there is no truer statement in the fitness industry. No matter how hard you work out, how motivated you are to exercise, you will never ever make progress unless you have your diet in check. At first I was in denial. I told myself that eating healthily sucks as I can't eat the food I enjoy. I thought that eating healthily was too expensive and unpractical for a skint university student. As with everything else up to this point, I was wrong.
I finally started to research on the ins and outs of dieting and working out effectively. And boy there is so much information out there that it was hard to digest (excuse the pun). I found contrasting information. I found recipes that were too strict, too expensive and too unpractical to make. I haven't got the time or money to be making two steaks, two chicken breasts and a piece of salmon everyday! How am I supposed to eat healthily when the internet is telling me to eat things that I actually cannot afford!?
I then realised how and where I was going wrong. These recipes aren't for me. They're not for university students. They're for people who have a lot of time and a lot of money. And whilst I had more of the former, I certainly did not have the latter. A lot of these recipes were recipes that were being used by celebrities and famous body builders. These people can afford for someone else to make their meals for them whilst they go about their business. So I started to devise my own plan. I bought a fitness and nutrition guide that asserted affordability and effectiveness. And I learnt a lot. You don't need to eat all of these fancy foods to get into shape. You just need to know what to buy, where to get it from and how to make it tasty. This is where the concept of UNICISE was born.
UNICISE is your one-stop-shop for fitness and nutrition in Brighton. UNICISE will be showing you where to buy deliciously healthy food at the lowest prices all over town. UNICISE has found the places to get the cheapest meats, vegetables and other foodly items. Our UNICISE chef Emily will then show you what to do with these items to make them tasty. Sometimes I forget that I am even on a diet! And most importantly, UNICISE will explain the concept of cheating strategically on a diet. Yes, you heard me... cheating on a restrictive diet is actually more beneficial than not. But I don't want to go off on a tangent here, you will find this info when the website is ready.
UNICISE will also be reviewing the top gyms in Brighton, comparing their prices, equipment, classes and how busy they are. UNICISE will show you how to work out effectively so you don't get bored. Oh, and if you don't fancy joining a gym, UNICISE will show you how to work out effectively from home too. I will also be writing articles on the latest fitness and nutrition news that concerns Brighton and it's students.
I've really gone on here but I am just excited. UNICISE stresses simplicity. When the site is finished, you will be able to find the information you want in a few clicks. It won't be hard to read either - just the information and facts right on the screen. It'll be easy to digest, so to speak (lul).
Anyway, I shall see you back here soon. The website should be finished within the month. And you will have all the information you need for living healthily in Brighton.
